This quick guide explains how to record a diagnosis and its staging in VieCure, including diagnosis priority (primary, secondary managed, secondary non-managed) and how staging is chosen. It also notes where each part is still being finalized.
How do I enter diagnosis and staging, including primary and secondary diagnoses?
Diagnosis is entered through the Patient Chart. Go to Diagnosis & Staging from the Left-side Navigation. There is a step-by-step flow.
- To add a new Diagnosis, click on Add New Diagnosis — Search for an ICD-10 code or description (Cancer or Non-Cancer tab). Record the Diagnosis Priority, Diagnosing Provider, and Date Diagnosed and then click the Continue button. For a non-cancer diagnosis, go straight to Save.
- Diagnosis Details – add the Confirmation Method and Disease Status.
- Histology (cancer only) — Pick the histology from a list filtered by the ICD-10 code.
- Tumor Profile — Enter biomarkers and tumor details.
- Molecular Data – Enter molecular data.
- Staging — Choose the Staging Type and enter the staging values.
- Select Save and Exit.
Other Useful Information
- Priority — Diagnoses are classified as Primary Managed, Secondary Managed or Secondary Non-Managed. Notes list them in that order, each in date-diagnosed order. Patients can have more than one primary diagnosis.
- Navigate back to Diagnoses, Edit [Previous Step], Save and Exit and Continue to [Next Step] stay at the bottom. Edit is only available before the diagnosis is saved; once saved, use Void Diagnosis, shown as an X under Actions.
- Staging type — Options are Clinical (default), Pathologic and Manual. Only types supported for the diagnosis are offered (for example Neoadjuvant Clinical and Neoadjuvant Pathologic where available). Prefixes (c, p, yc, yp) are applied by the system and cannot be edited.
- Manual staging — If the stage cannot be calculated (unknown histology, unknown primary, ambiguous code), you are told why and sent to Manual staging, with options filtered to the disease site (for example FIGO for gynecologic cancers). Benign and secondary/metastatic codes show a message instead of a staging prompt.
- Stage changes — Add Stage keeps both stages active; Restage replaces the active stage and keeps the old one within history.
- Notes — The diagnosis and stage can be inserted into notes with data tags (Primary Diagnosis, Secondary Managed Diagnosis, Secondary Non-Managed Diagnosis, Diagnosis Summary, Inactive - (Resolved Diagnosis). Notes show only active diagnoses, and the most recent stage with its prefix.
